Elvira V. Hopper

Meet Elvira V. Hopper, Founder & CEO, whose journey is a testament to authenticity and courage. Once striving for perfection, her life took a profound turn during what she calls her “blessed breakdown,” a moment that became her greatest spiritual breakthrough. At 51, Elvira stepped onto the professional stage as a jazz artist, no longer hiding behind a persona but channeling raw emotion and truth. She recorded her album REAL NOT PERFECT live, embracing the cracks and imperfections that make music—and life—truly felt. Inspired by her late father’s unrealized musical gift, she vowed not to leave her own song unsung.

Her WabiSabi Life Story

Like kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, her story is one of reinvention, resilience, and the beauty of choosing real over perfect, reminding us all that it’s never too late to honour our authentic selves. Elvira V. Hopper shares her Wabi Sabi gifts candidly with us in her own words.

Wabi: The Elegance of Simplicity

Wabi speaks to the beauty of rustic simplicity, of a life uncluttered by the need for external validation. It’s the quiet humility of a solitary bowl, holding just what is needed. For me, embracing Wabi meant shedding the ornate armor of my ego. With my first jazz band, Heart & Soul, I stopped trying to be a singer and simply became one. I stood in the spotlight with nothing but vulnerability and truth. I learned that a single, honest note, sung from the core of your being, is more powerful than a flawless, empty scale.

Sabi: The Grace of Time

Sabi is the celebration of what time and use bestow. It’s the luster on worn wood, the elegance of silvered hair, the quiet dignity that can only be earned through experience. It reminds us that nothing is permanent, and that this fleetingness is what makes every moment sacred.

When my second jazz duo was named the best band in a city teeming with brilliant artists, I felt the universe whispering, "This is your alignment." An evening where I had the privilege of wowing Stedman Graham was not a personal triumph, but another sign: when you walk your authentic path, the world conspires to meet you there.

This is why I must tell my story. Because I meet too many brilliant, heart-centered souls who believe their time has passed. They see their age as a barrier and their scars as disqualifications. I am here as living proof that your cracks are not your ruin—they are your redemption.

Kintsugi: The Gold in Your Cracks

The most beautiful embodiment of Wabi Sabi is the art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with lacquer dusted with gold. The breaks are not hidden; they are illuminated. The history of the object—its suffering, its survival—becomes its most beautiful feature.

My own life has been a practice in Kintsugi. Years shadowed by depression, the sting of panic, the betrayal of friends—these were not failures. They were the fractures that allowed my essential light to finally pour out. They became the golden veins that now hold me together, more resilient and more beautiful than before.

This is the message I carry to every creative spirit I meet: Abandon perfection. Embrace authenticity. Do not wait for the "right" moment. The moment is now, in all its beautiful, unfinished imperfection. Write the book that hums in your heart. Sing the song that aches in your bones. Let your cracks be lined with gold.

A MultIkigai Soul, Living Wabi Sabi

I call myself a MultIkigai Soul, for my purpose is not a single note, but a chord—a harmony of music, coaching, healing, and service. Wabi Sabi frees me from the tyranny of "finishing" or "perfecting" my purpose. Instead, I embrace the glorious incompleteness of it all. I am a perpetual work in progress, and that is the source of my joy and my creativity.

This is the freedom I wish for you: to know, in the deepest part of your being, that it is not too late. You are not too old. You do not need to be perfect. Your authentic, imperfect, glorious self is more than enough.

A Final Invitation

Wabi Sabi offers a gentle trinity of truths: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect. This is not a lament, but a liberation. It is an invitation to fall in love with the exquisite beauty of the now, just as it is.

By embracing my cracks, I found my light. By honoring impermanence, I found my courage. By releasing perfection, I found my true voice - Elvira V. Hopper.

So, I leave you with this, the most important question I know:

What is the real music inside you, waiting to be set free?

Do not die with your song still in you.

Sing it. Write it. Paint it. Build it. Live it.

Imperfectly. Authentically. Beautifully.

That is the essence of Wabi Sabi. And that is the essence of a life lived, at last, on your own terms.
